Again this year, our Club teamed with the Aurora (IL) Rotary Clubs to participate in the annual Block Build event sponsored by Rebuilding Together Aurora (RTA).
This year, the Rotary team helped a lady who paid it forward many years ago, but now needs help. Bertha is a lovely lady who once worked to help low income residents become homeowners and to make working class neighborhoods healthy and safe. Our work included: porch repair, staining & painting; gutter cleaning; bathroom repair and installing grab bars and a raised toilet seat; yard cleanup; and window caulking.
What is RTA? RTA is a safe and healthy housing organization that provides homeowners in need with critical home repairs, home safety modifications, and energy efficiency upgrades. RTA's work helps to preserve homes and rebuild communities by arming volunteers with hammers, paint brushes, and connecting them with qualified homeowners in need. Volunteers are committed to making a difference in the neighborhoods they live and work in by helping their neighbors improve their living conditions and lives while engaging in hands-on community development that positively impacts the health and vibrancy of the community. For 30 years, RTA has provided free critical home repairs for low-income homeowners in Aurora including senior citizens, military veterans, people living with disabilities, and families with young children living in unsafe conditions.
