Today, our guest speaker was Laura Desmarais, Board Member - People's Resource Center ("PRC").
 
Our Club has a long history of supporting and volunteering at PRC. 
 
Started in 1975 as a local (Wheaton) food pantry in a rented house, today, PRC operates one of the largest food pantry programs in Chicago's western suburbs, providing nearly 26,000 low-income DuPage County residents with basic human services and relationship-based educational programs to help create paths to self-sufficiency. 
 
 
 
 
Services are free of charge and include:
 
  • Food pantry.
  • Computer access and training programs.
  • Emergency rent and mortgage assistance to qualifying clients.
  • Financial assistance to qualifying clients; assists with various public benefit applications, and provides a variety of information and resources to meet client needs.
  • Job assistance provides free workshops and one-on-one job search coaching.
  • Adult learning and literacy program offers free instruction in English, math, and reading, as well as preparation for GED and citizenship tests.
  • Art program: offers free classes in the arts for DuPage County residents. Classes include painting, ceramics, collage, and more.
  • Cloths closet: clients may shop in the Clothes Closet for free, good quality, seasonal clothing for men, women, and children.
  • Financial literacy free workshops and resources.
