Today, our guest speaker was Leanne Vos, Executive Director of Donka, Inc. (https://donkainc.org/)
Donka is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides:
- Computer training and job readiness services to persons (including veterans and seniors) with physical, visual, and limited learning disabilities . Through the use of computers and assistive technology, their clients uncover their potential to achieve their goals whether it’s securing a job, going to school, or enjoying digital activities.
- Donka offers Basic to Advanced computer skills training based on each student's goals.
- Instruction is focused on commonly used business applications: training and skills involving Microsoft Office, word processing, spreadsheet and data entry, use of touch-technology that is used on iPads and other tablets, on-site employer software reviews to ensure student access, and portable on-the-job software.
- Job placement services: clients receive support defining job search, enhancing interviewing skills, developing resumes, identifying transportation or ADA issues, and more from a job placement specialist.
- Cost: the majority of clients are eligible to receive services at no cost. Computer training cost averages between $8,000 - $11,000 with funding available through various programs and grants.
- Donka has two physical locations for training students, the main lab in Wheaton (400 N. County Farm Road) and a satellite in Aurora. Each site is wheel chair accessible and with current computers, laptops, tablets, iPads, and assistive technology to meet students with even the most severe physical or visual disability.
- Donka can provide online training for students with transportation barriers.
