Today, our guest speaker was Scott Witte, Cantigny Park Horticulture Director.

While many club members have visited the Park to view the Alebrijas outdoor exhibits, Scott addressed items we likely weren't aware of.
  • Years of advance work, and thousands of hours of site preparation work were required. Invaluable help has been received from the National Museum of Mexican Art (Chicago), Mexican Cultural Center DuPage, the City of West Chicago, Telemundo, College of DuPage, and others.
  • In addition to the 48 sculptures, the Park gardens feature the native flowers of Mexico this summer, complementing the alebrije sculptures.
  • The sculptures were delivered to the Park from Mexico City in two semi-trailers, and the six artists were on site from May through July doing assembly, demonstrating their skills at the park and making appearances in the community. One of the artists is in residence through October to provide necessary maintenance of the sculptures.
  • Park attendance has increased by nearly 40% thanks to the exhibition.
  • Additional information about the exhibition including videos about the exhibits can be found at: https://cantigny.org/things-to-do/alebrijes/alebrijes-creatures-of-a-dream-world/
